Having been massively inspired and educated by my friend @ruffolous great recent work on elasticity I thought I'd share my progress in building an elastic sissy squat and drop down (Ma Bu) stance. I've spent lots of time prepping the joints, building the basic strength and capacity for the movement in question and progressively started to increase the speed of performance. Using a light chair for balance - (if I try and use it too much it falls over and so keeps me honest), am exploring how balance and rhythm can be built into these wonderful exercises. The quest as always is to not just be able to get into a position, but to connect in and out of these structures whether in playful/martial/sportive needs. Today was the first time I've had the confidence to build some speed into the exercises, and with the drop down stance working hard on staying more upright. Recoil, elasticity, rhythm - excellent athletic qualities to build alongside strength, conditioning etc., - its this that allows sustained power and efficient weight transfer. Now can start to pursue this with no safety net and gradually connect these into other shapes. What's lovely is it gives you another avenue for flexibility/mobility development!
